  • “Towards the end of 1878, Mr. M. P. McCoy . . . took up a commission to import the productions of Messrs. MacKellar, Smiths, and Jordan, of Philadelphia, and came to this country [Britain]. But not until 1879, when Mr. McCoy joined the firm of Messrs. J. L. Chaplin and Co. . . . can it be said that American type and material were brought generally before the notice of British printers” (Joyner 25)
