Notes

  • "In this country there is room for a thoroughly practical paper, worked on similar lines to the principal printing journals in the United States. The Printing World has received most liberal support from advertisers, and if subscribers will only respond in a like manner, I promise them a paper that shall be second to none for its practical matter, and a legitimate circulation far ahead of any other existing journal. Agents are wanted for every town in the Kingdom, to whom a liberal commission will be given. As practical printers you will all know the difficulties attending the issuing of first numbers, but I have no doubt you will agree with me that a start has been made in the right direction. The contributors are all practical men, even to the editor, who also claims this modest distinction. I now leave The Printing World on its merits" (signed John Bassett) ("To Printers," vol. 1, no. 1, p. 17)
